Dandruff is a very irritating and embarrassing condition that leaves visible flakes on hair and shoulders. Flaking happens because the skin cells of people with dandruff renew at a faster rate than they die, resulting in more skin being expelled. Other symptoms of dandruff are redness and itchiness of the scalp.
Note: Keep in mind that not all falling flakes are dandruff. Many people misdiagnose themselves every year, and spend all their time and money treating the wrong condition.
What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?
Apple Cider Vinegar, also know as cider vinegar or ACV, is made from cider or apple must. ACV has been used for centuries and has long been credited for curing various medical conditions, such as hair loss and of course dandruff. To archive the best result always use raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar that contains “the mother”.
Why Apple Cider Vinegar For Dandruff?
Apple Cider Vinegar contains malic acid and other powerful enzymes that help kill bacteria and fungus that cause dandruff. It also regulates the pH balance of your scalp, opens up clogged pores and acts as conditioner for your hair, giving it strength and the protection it needs.
ACV’s acid content helps reduce itchiness and flaking, while adding volume and shine to your hair. A bonus is that apple cider vinegar is all natural and does not contain any harsh chemicals. Many sufferers of dandruff find quick and effective relief after using ACV for only a few days.
How To Use Apple Cider Vinegar For Dandruff?
Apple cider vinegar can either be used alone or combined with other natural remedies.
– Apple Cider Vinegar Only
For mild to moderate dandruff, mix together one part of ACV and two parts of warm water. Than pour the mixture directly over your hair and massage it gently into your scalp. You can either let the cider dry in your hair or wash it out after about 15 minutes. To keep the bacteria on your scalp at bay, this mixture should be applied on a weekly basis.
For more severe dandruff you can either try a stronger mixture of one part ACV and one part water or apply apple cider vinegar directly to your scalp three times a week. You can wash the cider out with a mild shampoo after about 15 minutes.
– Apple Cider Vinegar With Other Natural Remedies
Combine you apple cider vinegar with other natural remedies for stubborn dandruff.
For examples tea tree oil has very similar properties as apple cider vinegar and kills fungus and bacteria that cause your dandruff. Simply add a few drops of tea tree oil to your apple cider and water mixture.
Honey is another natural remedy and helps reduce redness and itchiness caused by dandruff. Apply diluted honey (90% honey and 10% water) onto your wet hair and massage it gently into your scalp for 3 minutes. Let it sit for 3 hours. Then rinse with warm water and follow up with an apple cider vinegar wash.

Things To Consider
- ACV fumes are strong and can sting your eyes. If you use Apple cider vinegar for dandruff in the shower, always have adequate ventilation in the bathroom.
- Always use raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
- Use a natural anti-dandruff shampoo in addition to ACV. If your dandruff is very stubborn, you can use a good natural anti-dandruff, in addition to your apple cider vinegar treatment, to help you get rid of dandruff.

My Dr. swears by apple cider vinegar as a dandruff treatment, as the acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for yeast to grow. Mix a quarter cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup water in a spray bottle and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and let sit for 15 minutes to an hour, then wash your hair as usual. Do this twice a week.
On days when you do not have time for this, go with the Somaluxe Paradise Shampoo – its ultra moisturizing, and does not give me ANY dandruff. No harsh chemicals either
