Almost every week we get the question, “is it bad to wash your hair everyday?” in our inbox. So instead of replying to all of you individually, we decided to answer your questions in this article here.

So, Is It Bad To Wash Your Hair Everyday?

Well it depends. Unfortunately, there is no single answer to this question. Depending on your hair type and what hair products you are using, yes, it is bad to wash your hair everyday.

However, people who exercise regularly, live in a tropical climate, use gels, hair sprays or any other hair products besides shampoo and conditioner, should always wash their hair, or at least rinse it with water only, before going to bed.

People That Should Shampoo Daily

After a workout, you should always wash your hair right away, as your skin will be sweaty and dirty. Salty sweat travels down the hair shaft to the ends and causes your hair to become dehydrated, dry and brittle. It will also clog pores and follicles, restricting the supply of nutrition to the hair, and eventually starving it to death.

If you are using gels, waxes, hairsprays or any other hair products, make sure you are washing them out before going to bed at night. Just like sweat, they will clog your pores and follicles, which can cause hair loss.

People That Should Shampoo Every Other Day

If you are not exercising or using any clogging hair products, you don’t need to wash your hair every day. In fact, it is actually healthier for your hair if you don’t wash it everyday.

Washing your hair too frequently strips your hair of its natural oils (sebum), and make your hair look unhealthy and dry. Sebum is your hair’s natural conditioner that provides protection and strength to your hair, making it essential for healthy hair.

We recommend washing your hair every other day, or every two to three days.

Note: Using a cheap shampoos or shampoos that contain harsh chemical, such as sulfate, might also strip the hair of its oils and should be avoided at all cost. Instead, look for a good quality shampoo for your specific hair type.

    I have fine hair in texture, but an abundance of it. I wash my hair every other day unless I work outside or sweat a lot.
