How To Dye Your Hair Blonde

Are you thinking about dying your hair blonde? Great, but before you dive in and potentially ruin your hair read the tips below.

1. Consult With a Professional

We do not recommend bleaching at home because things can get wrong fast. Consult with a hairstylist, preferably one a friend can recommend, and ask her all the questions you have about dying your hair blonde. Make sure you feel comfortable with your hairstylist before handing over any money.

2. Choose a Blonde Shade That Matches Your Skin Tone

Before you go out and buy blonde hair dye, determine your skin tone. Picking the right shade of blonde is an important step and should not be rushed. Warm toned people will want to choose a darker or honey blonde shade, whereas fair skinned people should go for a golden shade of blonde. If you have medium skin try golden blonde, beige blonde or light blonde.

3. Take Your Time

Although it can be done, we do not recommend dying your hair in only one day. Take your time and avoid severe breakage which can only be reversed with a short haircut (probably the last thing you would want). Space out your bleaching sessions over the course of a few days, that way you don’t have to put too much damage onto your hair all at once.

4. Cut Your Hair After

To remove dead ends and avoid breakage, it is necessary to get a hair cut right after you dye it. Bleaching your hair can cause a lot of damage and cutting it will keep your hair healthy.

5. Proper Maintenance Is Important

Blonde hair will need a lot of maintenance to keep it healthy. Be prepared to spend money every few weeks to fill in roots or to get touch ups done.

6. Change Your Hair Care Routine

Do not shampoo every day, and avoid using any heated tools as they will only dry out your hair even more. Dyed hair is very dry and you will definitely need to use a few more hair products than before. Buy a shampoo that is moisturizing and nourishing, and give your hair a deep conditioning treatment every few days to keep it from drying out.

Tip: Putting coconut oil on your hair once a week will provide your hair with essential vitamins and increase your hair’s strength and greatly improve shine.
